Michael Tobian owns and operates several-medium sized successful businesses in a variety of diversified industries. A summary of these are listed below. In addition, Mr. Tobian is a professional saxophonist, drummer, bass player and booking agent. In this capacity, he has produced entertainment all over the globe for some of the largest companies in the world.
Michael graduated from Brigham Young University as a jazz studies music major on a music scholarship. As a student, he won several national awards and scholarships for improvised solo performances at jazz festivals. Shortly after graduating, at the young age of 26, he was teaching as a professor in the music department of two Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University (including a position as the head of the entire jazz department at UVU), had authored the textbook “Fundamentals of Jazz Improvisation”, was performing as an in demand saxophone player and clinician and educator, was teaching at a large music school, had started a successful booking agency, received a CBI designation from the IBBA (International Business Brokers Association), received a Real Estate Licence and began work as a business broker.
Michael spend the next 10 years attempting to make money and take over the world by starting businesses and networking. Some businesses didn’t do so well. Some have been very successful. Notably, his booking agency Utah Live Bands, which has won 21 Utah Best of State Awards and owns and/or manages some of the best event bands and Acts in the world. Other successsful endeavors include Empire Casino Parties, a casino party provider for upscale parties, SlapLaughter, a social media content creation business that shares memes and blog posts to an audience of over 2 million Facebook Followers, Dinosaur Events, a business that provides unique costuming and performers for movies and television shows, Stardust Stage Lighting and Design, a company that designs custom light shows for large productions, bands and conventions, and growing his business broker and business consulting efforts as an agent with Alpine Business Brokers. Michael’s ambition, drive, ability to leverage his time, willingness to take risks and his great network of talented people have been invaluable in his business achievements.
Michael’s personal hobbies include music, bodybuilding, poker, skiing and eating at nice restaurants.
There are many who believe that in order for them to “win”, others must “lose”. Mr Tobian’s view on life is the opposite (both in business and personal relationships). He strives to treat people right, build up those around him and to do whatever he can to help his close friends be successful. As a result, meaningful relationships are built and those people will help him be successful and will help lift him up in turn. This has served him well as a business strategy but more importantly, in developing meaningful and important relationships. At the end of the day, success has more to do with the meaningful relationships we build that the wealth we build. Without friends and a support system, money is incidental.
